FISHING LOCATIONS

A few launch spots around the Solent
Gosport- Stokes Bay

One of my favourite winter locations to launch from. With a conrete slipway it makes launching and landing a lot easier. There is plenty parking, toilets and will cost £5 for the whole day.

The water depth drops to around 40 feet about 200 meters from the beach.

Good location for Cod in the winter.

Gosport - Hardway Slipway - Portsmouth Harbour

Good lauching spot for fishing around Portsmouth Harbour. If its to windy in the Solent this is one of the locations I'll fish from using the protection of the Harbour. It can be difficult to launch and land during low tide so try and time it right. Parking will cost around £5 for the day and there is limited parking spaces. There isn't any toilets either.

Good spot for Bass and Flounder just don't anchor up in one of the shipping lanes as boat traffic can get busy at times.

Hayling Island

There is plenty launch spots along Hayling beach however I tend to launch from the Arcade as parking is cheaper and there is toilets on site. If the arcade parking is shut then there is another parking lot next door.

The arcade parking is £3 until 10PM and the council parking is £6 for the hole day. Launching can be tough with the shingle beach especially on low tide and a good kayak trolley is a must. This Location is good for Plaice, Rays, Smoothound, Bream and Bass.

Southsea Pier

This is a good launch spot in Summer evenings after work as parking is free after 6PM and everything from Mackerel, Bream, Smoothounds to Sea Bass can be caught here. Try and avoid launching during the day on weekends as the beach gets really busy and parking is exspensive, if you are planning on spending the day try and launch early in the morning. The beach is part sand and part shingle so launcing isn't bad. There is toilets in the Canoe Lake park adjacent to the beach and a few free parking spaces however you will need a good kayak trolley to get to the beach.

Elmore Slipway

This is a good launch spot with a conrete slipway. There is plenty parking but unfortunatly no toilets. Launching from here is ideal for fishing Browndown Bouy which is good for Cod and Pouting in Winter and Rays and Garfish in Summer. Parking will cost you £5 for the day.

No 2 Battery West - Submarine Museum

The Car park has plenty spaces and will cost you around £5 for the day. There is a Cafe and toilets on site. The car park can fill quickly during summer days due to the cafe so early launches are recommened. There is a slipway but it's mainly covered in shingle and sand so a kayak trolley is needed. During Low tide the first 100m's or so are below a foot in depth due to a large sand bank as seen in the birds eye view picture. However this is a good launch spot because just a couple hundred meters out is a good Pout hole.

Monks Hill Car Park - Fareham

Launching and landing will be on a chesil beach but on high tide the water almost reaches the Car Park and there isn't a steep bank. The Car Park is free and also has toilets on site. In summer you will struggle to find a space so early launches are recommened. This spot is good for Smoothounds and rays and is only about 20 feet deep for a couple kilometres out. There is a runway near the launch spot which can get fairly noisey and there is also a Jet Ski Launch ramp which can get very busy in Summer. Can't complain though with free parking and toilets on site and I've had some decent Smoothounds from this venue.
